GOHi Fellow Spotlight: Mekonnen Tsegaye Yehuala

Mekonnen Tsegaye Yehuala earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Haramaya University, July 2000, and a master’s in applied microbiology from Addis Ababa University, July 2003.

He has conducted scientific research on the survival of food borne pathogen Escherichia coli O157:H7 in Ethiopian fermented diary foods and condiments (that were published in Food Microbiology and International Journal of Food Microbiology).

He joined Addis Ababa University to pursue his PhD on health biotechnology in September 2017, and at present, he is working on a project to develop and validate ELISA kit for S.Typhi sponsored by the World Bank.

He is working under the supervision of GOHi Executive Director Wondwossen Gebreyes, professor in the Ohio State Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine, and John Gunn, professor in the Ohio State Department of Microbiology.
