Follow-up study evaluates community knowledge, attitude, readiness and challenges related to NPIs

During the initial stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, Ethiopian Public Health Institute, RESOLVE to Save Lives and Ohio State Global One Health initiative (GOHi) conducted a rapid Non-Pharmaceutical Intervention (NPI) study of 834 randomly selected telephone surveys.

The study exhibited a significant gap in the knowledge and practices of the communities that assisted the government in the risk communication plan and implementations. On December 17, 2020, the taskforce shared the results of a follow-up study with Ethiopian Ministry of Health and Ethiopian Public Health Institute leadership and staff. The follow-up study that was conducted October-November 2020 was carried out seven months after the initial assessment with the objective of evaluating the community knowledge, attitude, readiness and challenges related to NPIs, level of stakeholder satisfaction and psychosocial impact of COVID-19.

The study involved urban, rural, pastoral and agro-pastoral populations. The study applied both qualitative and quantitative methods with an additional assessment of satisfaction of participants related to Care at the Quarantine/Isolation Center and Staff Satisfaction of Emergency Operation Center.
