The India Gateway hosted Ohio State senior leadership recently in Mumbai and New Delhi, taking the opportunity to showcase firsthand several long-standing partnerships, connections with prominent alumni and celebrate the university’s Sesquicentennial.
The Ohio State delegation included, Bruce McPheron, executive vice president and provost; Gil Latz, vice provost of Global Strategies and International Affairs; Anil Makhija, dean of the Fisher College of Business; Gates Garrity-Rokous, vice president and chief compliance officer; and Padmini Roy-Dixon, executive director of the Global Gateways and Partnerships.
Ohio State has a number of formal partnerships with corporations and institutions of higher education in India and the January 5 – 10 visit enabled the group to interact with key representatives at the Tata Management Training Center, the American Institute for Indian Studies, the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay and Mahindra. One of the highlights of the trip was meeting Mamata Mukhopadhyay, the first woman to earn a chemical engineering PhD from Ohio State, and Laxmikant Tanna, one of the first students from India to graduate from Ohio State. He earned his MBA in 1958.
In honor of Ohio State’s Sesquicentennial anniversary, the India Gateway and India Alumni Club hosted an alumni dinner in New Delhi providing an opportunity for those in attendance to recognize the successes of Ohio State’s past and learn more about how the university will re-envision its land-grant role in the modern light of the 21st century.
The visit not only strengthened ties between Ohio State and its alumni, partners and friends but helped forge new relationships for the future.
