With the objective of promotion and development of modern foreign languages and area studies through the educational structure of the United States, the U.S. Department of Education offers two Fulbright-Hays Fellowship programs.

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowship Program

Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowship Program provides grants to colleges and universities to fund individual doctoral students to conduct research in other countries, in modern foreign languages and area studies for periods of six to 12 months. 

The Office of International Affairs is currently soliciting applicants for the FY2023 U.S. Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) Fellowship competition. All interested students must contact Joanna Kukielka-Blaser to register interest and discuss application process by October 31, 2023.

Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) Fellowship Program

Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad (FRA) Fellowship Program provides grants to colleges and universities to fund faculty to maintain and improve their area studies and foreign language skills by conducting research in other countries for periods of three to 12 months.

Application Process and Package

The Office of International Affairs administers the two programs. Competitions are held annually, pending the availability of funds. Faculty and graduate students must apply through the Office of International Affairs.
