Ohio State Hosts Its Seventh Consecutive Pre-Departure Orientation in China

Ohio State’s seventh consecutive Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) in China welcomed 419 students and 486 parents to learn from student volunteers and university staff about Ohio State and the American college experience.

PDO is organized into two one-day sessions held in Shanghai and Beijing. Chinese students who will be attending Ohio State are provided with information to help them get an early adjustment to college in the United States.

Daniel Wang, PDO volunteer majoring in, attended PDO before beginning at Ohio State.

“PDO gave me the clear information and the timeline for what to do before I entered the university, which was extremely helpful for me,” said Wang. “It also gave me a lot of information about what I could expect on campus and how I could better utilize the campus resources.”

Parents also attend the sessions and are presented with information to help them better understand their student's future college experience and learn how they can best support their student's academic pursuits.

In addition to the orientation, students and families have the chance to attend one of two alumni receptions, hosted in both Shanghai and Beijing, where they meet Ohio State graduates who live and work in China.

Pre-Departure Orientation is a collaboration among the Office of International Affairs, Office of Student Life and Office of Enrollment Services. Visit go.osu.edu/chinapdo to learn more.
