Global Engagement

Ohio State is committed to encouraging cross-cultural interaction and promoting the exchange of ideas as it moves toward becoming a preeminent global university. The Office of International Affairs has developed creative programming to increase opportunities for international students to get involved and facilitate growing relationships between international students and the Ohio State campus community through social, cultural and educational activities.

The Global Engagement team provides opportunities for international and domestic students to experience the diverse culture at Ohio State. Global Engagement has implemented a variety of programs and activities to better promote cross-cultural relationships on campus.

A Global Engagement newsletter is emailed to all interested students on a weekly basis. The newsletter includes information about upcoming Global Engagement Nights, international film series screenings, cultural activities on campus and in Columbus, and resources available to students looking to engage with other Ohio State students. Why, How, What Now

Following the 2016 Presidential Election results, the Office of International Affairs will host a panel on November, 30 at 6:30 p.m. in 100 Enarson Classroom Building to help students understand how the American election process works. 

This event is aimed at answering any questions international students and scholars may have while listening to Ohio State panelists from different areas of study including political science, history and law share their expertise and give their opinions about the process.

Those interested in attending the event can submit ahead of time any questions they would like addressed at go.osu.edu/SubmitQuestions.

 

“Social Sips” is an opportunity to bring campus face to face. The concept is simple: show up and grab a coffee, cider or hot chocolate, find a partner and talk for five minutes. The English Conversation Program is partnering with Crimson Cup to host “Social Sips” on Tuesday, November 15, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. outside of Enarson Classroom Building.

Taste of OSU is an Ohio State signature event that provides international student organizations the opportunity to showcase their diverse food and culture to thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members that attend each year. This year the event will take place on February 17, 2017 from 5 - 9 p.m. at the Ohio Union.

Ohio State international organizations can now apply to participate in the following categories: preparing and serving international dishes, displaying cultural booths, performing interactive activities or performing on stage. Those looking to apply should read all guidelines carefully.

To apply for a food or cultural booth please visit go.osu.edu/culturalbooth, and to apply to perform an interactive activity or to perform on state visit go.osu.edu/cultureperformance.

Applications close on November 1, 2016 at midnight.

Thanksgiving Dinner VolunteersThe Ohio State University will host one of the largest Thanksgiving Day dinners on a college campus on Thursday, November 24, in the Archie Griffin Ballroom at the Ohio Union. The annual event estimates 1,600 guests will attend, including the students, faculty and staff, along with their families, who are unable to travel home for the holiday. Joining them will be many volunteers throughout the university community to assist in serving the traditional turkey dinner on actual Thanksgiving Day. Volunteers are needed for two shifts from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. The deadline to register is Wednesday, November 2.

Olympian Nichelle Prince Visits Global Engagement NightInternational student-athlete Nichelle Prince shared her Olympic experience in Brazil with students at Global Engagement Night on September 20. A member of the Canadian women's national soccer team, Prince and her teammates won a bronze medal in Rio. A senior forward from Ajax, Ontario on The Ohio State University Women's Soccer Team, Prince talked about the confidence she gained from achieving her goals.
