Global Engagement

Ohio State is committed to encouraging cross-cultural interaction and promoting the exchange of ideas as it moves toward becoming a preeminent global university. The Office of International Affairs has developed creative programming to increase opportunities for international students to get involved and facilitate growing relationships between international students and the Ohio State campus community through social, cultural and educational activities.

The Global Engagement team provides opportunities for international and domestic students to experience the diverse culture at Ohio State. Global Engagement has implemented a variety of programs and activities to better promote cross-cultural relationships on campus.

A Global Engagement newsletter is emailed to all interested students on a weekly basis. The newsletter includes information about upcoming Global Engagement Nights, international film series screenings, cultural activities on campus and in Columbus, and resources available to students looking to engage with other Ohio State students. Due to rain in the forecast, the location of the English Conversation Program's End of the Year Celebration has been moved to Oxley Hall on Saturday, April 25 from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.

The afternoon will include a potluck lunch with catered Chinese and Peruvian food, and a performance by the Ohio-native band, Indira & Guppy Jo. All students are encouraged to attend and bring their friends. If you have any questions, contact Ryan Radebaugh.

The registration for next year's English Conversation Program will be open starting Saturday at the celebration. Check our Twitter and Facebook feeds for a link to the application form.

Thank you to all of the students who participated in the first International Student Photo Contest. We received many wondeful photos, all with new persectives on life around the world and right here on campus. After a week of voting, the Ohio State community has selected their favorite photographs in both categories. The winning photographs and their descriptions are below.

The Office of International Affairs will be running, and walking, in the 4th Annual Columbus International 5K on Saturday, April 25 starting at 9 a.m. The race will begin and end at Scioto Audubon Metro Park. Participants are encouraged to dress up to represent their home country or their favorite country.

If you're interested in participating, register to join the OIA Global Engagement team. If you do not want to participant in the 5K, you can still come and cheer on our team from the sidelines.

The price is $30, plus an additional sign up fee. Each participant will receive an international t-shirt, price included in the registration fee.

Join the Office of International Affairs for an adventure to Ohio's Amish Country in Holmes County on Saturday, March 28. The day-trip will include a tour of the Amish and Mennonite Heritage Center, including a historical mural, a visit to a local basket-making family, a buggy ride from a local Amish driver, a trip to Heine’s Cheese and a homemade family-style meal.

All transportation and activities are free, but there will be opportunities for personal purchases.

 If you are interested, please visit 100 Oxley Hall to enter the lottery for a spot on the trip between Monday, March 9 and Friday, March 20. Students selected will be notified and asked to fill out a form and present a copy of their BuckID. Please contact Ryan Radebaugh with questions.

The Office of International Affairs will host the first International Student Photography Contest this month. International students will be able to submit their best photographs in two themed categories, and friends will be able to vote for the best photographs on Facebook.

International and domestic students can enter a lottery to join the Office of International Affairs on a trip to Williamsburg, Virginia from March 14-17.

The long weekend will include a visit to historic Colonial Williamsburg for a look back in time to the American Revolution. The group will also have the opportunity to tour Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States.

Interested students should visit 100 Oxley Hall, with a copy of their BuckID, from Monday, January 26 to Wednesday, February 4 to enter the lottery for a spot on the trip. There are 40 spots available, 20 for international students and 20 for domestic students. If you are chosen you will be notified on Friday, February 6. Transportation, lodging and one group meal will be provided. Contact Renée Bishai with questions.
