Global Engagement

Ohio State is committed to encouraging cross-cultural interaction and promoting the exchange of ideas as it moves toward becoming a preeminent global university. The Office of International Affairs has developed creative programming to increase opportunities for international students to get involved and facilitate growing relationships between international students and the Ohio State campus community through social, cultural and educational activities.

The Global Engagement team provides opportunities for international and domestic students to experience the diverse culture at Ohio State. Global Engagement has implemented a variety of programs and activities to better promote cross-cultural relationships on campus.

A Global Engagement newsletter is emailed to all interested students on a weekly basis. The newsletter includes information about upcoming Global Engagement Nights, international film series screenings, cultural activities on campus and in Columbus, and resources available to students looking to engage with other Ohio State students. Global Leadership Initiative (GLI) was awarded the Spirit of Ohio State Award at the 2016 Ohio State Leadership Award Ceremony in recognition of their commitment to cross-cultural engagement across campus. GLI was founded in 2013 with the purpose of promoting global citizenship and student leadership at Ohio State and fostering unity across the diverse campus community.

The Office of International Affairs will host the second annual Spring Egg-Stravaganza for students and scholars on Saturday, March 26 at Oxley Hall.

The event will include two eggs hunts, delicious donuts from Buckeye Donuts and many more exciting treats, activities and prizes. The egg hunts will take place in and around Oxley Hall.

If you are a student interested in putting your organizational and leadership skills to the test, then apply to become the chair of one of our signature events - Thanksgiving or Taste of OSU. The Office of International Affairs is accepting applications from students who want to learn more about running a planning committee, budgeting, time management and communications. The deadline to apply has been extended to Monday, April 4.

The Office of International Affairs is seeking both American and international students to volunteer as Global Ambassadors. Global Ambassadors are a diverse team of students committed to promoting cultural exchange at The Ohio State University. As volunteers with the Office of International Affairs, Global Ambassadors demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the Office of International Affairs, which seeks the engagement of students, staff and faculty in the global Ohio State community.

International and domestic students can enter a lottery to join the Office of International Affairs on a trip to Tennessee, with stops in Nashville and Memphis from March 12-15.

The long weekend will include a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, a walking tour of Nashville and a visit to popular attractions like the Grand Ole Opry, Vanderbilt University and the Parthenon.

Interested students should visit 100 Oxley Hall until Friday, February 12 to enter the lottery for a spot on the trip. There are 40 spots available, 20 for international students and 20 for domestic students. If you are chosen you will be notified by email. Transportation, lodging and one group meal will be provided. The Office of International Affairs is now accepting applications for the Global Engagement Team Orientation Leaders, previously known as the Welcome Team. Orientation Leaders are a group of diverse student leaders who welcome new international students to Ohio State and the city of Columbus. Students who apply must be available to work 36-38 hours per week from Monday, July 25 - Sunday, August 21, 2016. Students selected as Orientation Leaders will be responsible for welcoming new international students, answering questions about thing like transportation, life on campus and living in Columbus, while also leading orientation events around campus and Columbus.
