Global Engagement

Ohio State is committed to encouraging cross-cultural interaction and promoting the exchange of ideas as it moves toward becoming a preeminent global university. The Office of International Affairs has developed creative programming to increase opportunities for international students to get involved and facilitate growing relationships between international students and the Ohio State campus community through social, cultural and educational activities.

The Global Engagement team provides opportunities for international and domestic students to experience the diverse culture at Ohio State. Global Engagement has implemented a variety of programs and activities to better promote cross-cultural relationships on campus.

A Global Engagement newsletter is emailed to all interested students on a weekly basis. The newsletter includes information about upcoming Global Engagement Nights, international film series screenings, cultural activities on campus and in Columbus, and resources available to students looking to engage with other Ohio State students. The Office of International Affairs is seeking both American and international students to volunteer as Global Ambassadors. Global Ambassadors are a diverse team of students committed to promoting cultural exchange at The Ohio State University. As volunteers with the Office of International Affairs, Global Ambassadors demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the Office of International Affairs, which seeks the engagement of students, staff and faculty in the global Ohio State community.

International and domestic students can enter a lottery to join the Office of International Affairs on a trip to Tennessee, with stops in Nashville and Memphis from March 12-15.

The long weekend will include a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis, a walking tour of Nashville and a visit to popular attractions like the Grand Ole Opry, Vanderbilt University and the Parthenon.

Interested students should visit 100 Oxley Hall until Friday, February 12 to enter the lottery for a spot on the trip. There are 40 spots available, 20 for international students and 20 for domestic students. If you are chosen you will be notified by email. Transportation, lodging and one group meal will be provided. The Office of International Affairs is now accepting applications for the Global Engagement Team Orientation Leaders, previously known as the Welcome Team. Orientation Leaders are a group of diverse student leaders who welcome new international students to Ohio State and the city of Columbus. Students who apply must be available to work 36-38 hours per week from Monday, July 25 - Sunday, August 21, 2016. Students selected as Orientation Leaders will be responsible for welcoming new international students, answering questions about thing like transportation, life on campus and living in Columbus, while also leading orientation events around campus and Columbus.

The Office of International Affairs, along with more than 30 Ohio State student organizations and Student Life Dining Services chefs, are coming together to prepare an evening of international food, exhibits and cultural performances for the campus community at Taste of OSU 2016, which is set for Friday, February 19 from 5 - 9 p.m. in the Ohio Union.

This winter break, the Office of International Affairs is passing out limited free tickets for popular films at the Gateway Film Center. Starting this Wednesday, students can pick up a ticket voucher in 100 Oxley Hall for a screening on the following Saturday afternoon. Films will be announced on a weekly basis and movie times will be determined by the Gateway Film Center's schedule.
 
If you will be in Columbus over winter break and are interested in attending a free film, visit 100 Oxley Hall with your BuckID between Wednesday and Friday to sign up for the week's selected show. Film titles will be updated below as they are selected, check back each week over break to see which film is available.

The English Conversation Program and the Rec Sports will host a Battleship competition on Saturday, November 7 from 4:30 - 7 p.m. at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, in the competition pool.

Battleship is a friendly competition in which teams of 4 paddle around the pool in a canoe and try to sink other canoes by dumping buckets of water in them. All participants will be provided a life jacket. Please wear clothes suitable for swimming. Heavy clothes are not allowed (jeans, sweatshirts, sweatpants.) Clothing suggestions include shorts, bathing suits, t-shirts and leggings.

Registration is now open. It is recommended to form teams of four students when you register. Only one team member needs to sign up and include the names of the other three teammates. If you do not have a group and you still want to participate, you may sign up as an individual and we will place you with a group the day of the event.
