Global Engagement

Ohio State is committed to encouraging cross-cultural interaction and promoting the exchange of ideas as it moves toward becoming a preeminent global university. The Office of International Affairs has developed creative programming to increase opportunities for international students to get involved and facilitate growing relationships between international students and the Ohio State campus community through social, cultural and educational activities.

The Global Engagement team provides opportunities for international and domestic students to experience the diverse culture at Ohio State. Global Engagement has implemented a variety of programs and activities to better promote cross-cultural relationships on campus.

A Global Engagement newsletter is emailed to all interested students on a weekly basis. The newsletter includes information about upcoming Global Engagement Nights, international film series screenings, cultural activities on campus and in Columbus, and resources available to students looking to engage with other Ohio State students. Global Buckeye CelebrationCelebrate the beginning of a new school year while welcoming more than 2,000 international students to campus! Join us on Friday, August 19 from 5 - 7 p.m. at the RPAC for our annual Global Buckeye Celebration.

This year's celebration will include inflatable games, international dancing, Zumba fitness and Ohio State trivia competitions, pizza, games, prizes and more as we welcome these new students to campus and get ready for the beginning of autumn semester.

Before arriving on campus this fall, future Ohio State students from China will attend Pre-Departure Orientation, a one-day orientation session offered in Shanghai and Beijing from June 17-25.

Ohio State University is one of the first universities in the United States to organize a Pre-Departure Orientation in China, and this will be the fourth year of the program. Ohio State expects to welcome about close to 800 undergraduate students from China to campus this fall, and more than 440 students and 600 parents registered for the orientation sessions this summer.

A celebration for international students graduating this semester will occur on Friday, May 6 at 3:30 p.m. in the Ohio Staters, Inc. Traditions Room at the Ohio Union. All international students, along with their family and friends, are invited to attend and be recognized for their tremendous accomplishment.

Graduating students will be introduced at the reception and given the opportunity to share their accomplishments and their future plans after graduation. A photographer from the Office of International Affairs will be taking pictures, but guests are welcome to bring their own camera as well. Graduates are also encouraged to bring their country's flag to the reception. You can view slideshows of previous graduation receptions here.

If you are able to attend the reception, please register and let us know the number of guests you plan to bring to the event.

Global Leadership Initiative (GLI) was awarded the Spirit of Ohio State Award at the 2016 Ohio State Leadership Award Ceremony in recognition of their commitment to cross-cultural engagement across campus. GLI was founded in 2013 with the purpose of promoting global citizenship and student leadership at Ohio State and fostering unity across the diverse campus community.

The Office of International Affairs will host the second annual Spring Egg-Stravaganza for students and scholars on Saturday, March 26 at Oxley Hall.

The event will include two eggs hunts, delicious donuts from Buckeye Donuts and many more exciting treats, activities and prizes. The egg hunts will take place in and around Oxley Hall.

If you are a student interested in putting your organizational and leadership skills to the test, then apply to become the chair of one of our signature events - Thanksgiving or Taste of OSU. The Office of International Affairs is accepting applications from students who want to learn more about running a planning committee, budgeting, time management and communications. The deadline to apply has been extended to Monday, April 4.
