English Conversation Program

The English Conversation Program is a wonderful opportunity for international and American students to expand their worldviews, improve their intercultural communication skills, make new friends and increase their Global English competency.

As part of the English Conversation Program (ECP), groups of five students will meet throughout the academic year. The small groups will participate in a variety of activities around campus and Columbus. There will be also be organized events for the entire ECP, including potlucks, football tailgates and other cultural events around Columbus. ECP members will have the opportunity to attend these events, and other intercultural communication workshops, throughout the year.

Students can apply to become an ECP Facilitator. ECP facilitators are responsible for contacting their respective group and engaging group members is cultural discussion. Facilitators will also have opportunities to attend leadership development workshops. If you are interested in this position, please indicate your interest on your ECP application.

Registration for Autumn 2017 opens on August 25. Sign up for the English Conversation Program using the registration page.

What is Global English?

Approximately 292 million people speak American English as their first language, part of the 430 million people who speak English as their first language (including the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, etc) and the 750 million people who speak English as a second language.

Language is always changing and adapting, and the ability to understand, and effectively communicate, with all English speakers is an essential skill in the 21st century. Global English is inclusive of all dialects of English in which the goal is effective communication.

For updates about the program, join the ECP Facebook Group. If you have any questions regarding ECP, contact Dan Montour.
