2013 Cultural Performances

Bangladesh Student Association

The Bangladesh Student Association performed at Taste of OSU on February 22, 2013 at The Ohio State University. They performed a famous contemporary dance from Bangladesh, reflecting the country's modern culture.

Foclor Hispano

Foclor Hispano performed at Taste of OSU on February 22, 2013 at The Ohio State University. Their dance was a "cumber," a folk dance from Columbia, which emerged in Columbia from the African slave population along the country's Atlantic coast in the 1820s.

South Asian Student Association

The South Asian Student Association performed at Taste of OSU on February 22, 2013 at The Ohio State University. Their performance featured a multicultural dance including Bollywood, Pakistani, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil and Punjabi music to show the unique dances of six different areas in South Asia.

Taiwanese Student Association

The Taiwanese Student Association performed on February 22, 2013 at Taste of OSU at The Ohio State University. The group's performance is representative of the growing popularity of dance in Taiwan, especially street dance.

Thai Student Association

Luke Bauer performed on behalf of the Thai Student Association during Taste of OSU on February 22, 2013 at The Ohio State University.

Ukrainian Club

The Ukrainian Club performed on February 22, 2013 at Taste of OSU at The Ohio State University. Their first dance, "Pryvit," is a welcoming dance is followed by the main dance set to "Kolomiyka" by the famous Ukrainian singer Ruslana, which features movements from various regions of Ukraine.

Vietnamese Student Association

The Vietnamese Student Association performed a traditional conical hat dance at Taste of OSU on February 22, 2013 at The Ohio State University. Vietnamese dancing is slow to show the grace of the dancers and to focus on the hand and upper body movements.

Sri Lankan Student Association

The Sri Lankan Student Association performed at Taste of OSU on February 22, 2013 at The Ohio State University. Their performance combined classical and modern Sri Lankan dance style, and their music was in Sinhalese and Tamil, the two most common languages in Sri Lanka.

J2K

J2K performed on February 22, 2013 at Taste of OSU at The Ohio State University. The group performs modern choreography set to J-pop and K-pop songs, and their music, which includes Chinese, Korean and Japanese songs, represents the diversity of the group itself.

Indonesia Student Association

The Indonesia Student Association performed on February 22, 2013 at Taste of OSU at The Ohio State University. The group performed a traditional dance called Tari Enggang from Kalimantan Timur. The dance depicts a war between two men, and followed by a women's celebration of victory.

Indian American Student Association

The Indian American Student Association presents Dhadkan, a South Asian a cappella team who performed at Taste of OSU on February 22, 2013. Their performance blends English and Bollywood songs to allow the singers to express both their Indian and American heritage.

Ethiopian and Eritrean Student Organization

The Ethiopian and Eritrean Student Organization performed at Taste of OSU on February 22, 2013 at The Ohio State University. Their dance combines traditional dances from all around Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Dance Coalition

The Dance Coalition performed on February 22, 2013 at Taste of OSU at The Ohio State University. The group combines different aspects of dance from areas around the world. In this performance they incorporate elements from Bollywood, ballroom and hip-hop.

Buckeye Bhangra

The Buckeye Bhangra, Ohio State's premier all-female Bhangra dance team, performed on February 22, 2013 at Taste of OSU at The Ohio State University. The group promotes awareness of the Punjabi culture, and strives to represent Bhangra in its most traditional form while incorporating innovation with every performance.

BAAM A Cappella

BAAM A Cappella performed at Taste of OSU on February 22, 2013 at The Ohio State University. The group focuses on music from East Asia, South East Asia and the Pacific Islands. For their performance they sang a pop song in Tagalog, a major language spoken in the Philippines.
