Hellenic Association - Pentozali and Hassapiko

The Hellenic Student Association performs Pentozali and Hassapiko. The first dance is performed to the tune of Hassapiko, probably the most famous Greek tune, which was made even more popular by the movie Zorba the Greek. The instrument used is called a bouzouki. The second dance of the Pentozali is historically a war dance performed in the island of Crete. The students will be performing a remix of this dance. Greek dances are very intertwined in both modern and classical Greek culture. Greek music and dance was the greatest form of expression in the post-WWII era. Immigrants sang of their pain of lost homes and loved ones developing the music called Rebetika.

Recorded at Taste of OSU on Friday, January 29, 2010 at The Ohio State University by Office of International Affairs videographer Victor van Buchem.
