2007 Study Abroad Fair Set for October 12

Whether students are majoring in agriculture or business, engineering or a language, there are study abroad programs available in a wide variety of disciplines. In addition, there are short-term programs in conjunction with an academic course to longer experiences such as quarter-to-year-long stays in an international environment from which students can choose.

"Studying abroad enables students to engage in different cultures and have a rewarding educational experience all at the same time," said Grace Johnson, Director of Study Abroad. "Students who take advantage of study abroad programs will find that they have gained a greater sense of independence and feel more confident about themselves, which can translate to more opportunities once they enter the job market."

At this year's Study Abroad Fair, students will be able to talk one-on-one with the Office of International Affairs study abroad staff to discuss the wide range of programs available in Asia, Australia, the Middle East, South America, Europe and Africa, how to earn academic credit and what options are available to finance their study abroad program. Also on hand, will be representatives from Ohio State academic departments who help facilitate study abroad programs, as well as other representatives who help support study abroad programs. Students also will be able to obtain passport applications and have their passport photo taken for a fee on site from representatives of the United States Postal Service.

The Study Abroad Fair is sponsored in part by University Admissions and First Year Experience, and facilities support is provided by Ohio State Recreational Sports.

Ohio State offers one of the larger study abroad programs in the nation with approximately 1,800 students participating each year. For more information about study abroad programs, students may call (614) 292-6101, e-mail abroad@oia.osu.edu or visit oia.osu.edu.
