2014 International Photography Competition Rules

All Ohio State University students, staff, faculty, visiting scholars and alumni are invited to submit photos to the 2014 International Photography Competition.

1. All current students, faculty, staff, visiting scholars or alumni at The Ohio State University are eligible to participate, except for full-time staff within the Office of International Affairs.

2. A Facebook account is required to submit and/or vote for photo entries.

3. The 2014 International Photography Competition has two phases:

  • Submission phase: (October 3, 2014 – October 20, 2014 at 4 p.m.) 

  • Voting phase: (October 20, 2014 at 5 p.m. – November 3, 2014 at 4 p.m.)

4. Photographs must be:

a) the original work of the entrant
b) taken outside of the United States
c) of high quality
d) submitted via our online Facebook app before submission deadline (October 20, 2014 at 4 p.m.)
d) an acceptable image type for the online submission form (jpg, gif and png)
e) no larger than 3Mb (3145728 bytes) and no smaller than 1Mb

5. Entrants may submit up to 3 (three) photographs in each of the following categories (thus each photographer is limited to submitting 9 (nine) total photos):

a) People
b) Places
c) Animals

6. By submitting a photo and reading and agreeing to the rules, entrants are agreeing to grant The Ohio State University and the Office of International Affairs use of the photographs in displays related to the contest and in other printed and electronic publications. Efforts will be made to credit the entrant when possible.

7. On October 20, 2014 at 5 p.m., all approved photos will appear in our online Facebook app for the voting phase.

8. Share your photo(s) and encourage others to vote for yours. Users can vote once every 24 hours. First, second and third place awards will be presented in each category to the photos with the most votes at the end of the voting period (November 3, 2014 at 4 p.m.)

9. The Office of International Affairs will select 40 photos based on artistic expression, creativity, originality, photo commentary and the quality of the image to be on display at our photo exhibition in the Ohio Union. Photos chosen for the exhibition will be printed, displayed and framed as an 8x10. Winning the online photography competition does not guarantee that your photo will make it into the exhibition.
