In the artist’s own words: “Paris is also known as the “City of Light,” as in the 1860’s, the boulevards and streets of Paris were illuminated by 56,000 gas lamps. I took this picture of Rue Xavier Privas, a famous food street of the city, during the last days of my two-year stay in the city. People standing on both the sides of street were agents for the restaurants, waiting for the customers. It was unforgettable to see how they were competing with each other to bring in the tourists in their restaurants only.”
