In the artist’s own words: “I interviewed Mammat Djaoro, a fisherman, in his home in the Logone Floodplain, as part of my fieldwork for a current research collaboration between OSU and the University of Maroua. I have not seen him since, as I wasn’t able to go back to the area because of the Boko Haram insurgency. He is a strong man whse fishing practices have led to long and unresolved conflict with his neighbors and fellow fishermen. We spent several hours talking about his life. The strength and the pain of his stories are reflected in his eyes.”
