In the photographer's words: "On Pentecost, the Italians drop rose petals through the oculus of the Pantheon to represent the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the earth. Not only was the petals falling through the light that beamed through the oculus and awe-inspiring experience, it was even the calm after the storm that made me catch my breath. People were careful not to step on the rose petals as often as they could even though it was next to impossible to avoid them all, for the petals covered the ground almost like a velvet carpet. Particularly it was the way the petals lay so gently on the ground as if only to kiss the ground in its brevity on earth."
