In the artist's own words: “The settlement Ushuaia, situated at the Beagle Channel in Southern Fireland (Tierra del Fuego) and overlooked by a magnifcent mountain range, became notorious in the early 20th century as the remote location of a high-security jail. The surrounding mountains and the cold sea made any escape attempt futile. Later on the prison was used for political convicts such as anarchist Simon Radowitzky and democrat Ricardo Rojas, as well as several minds behind the Revolution of 1955. The mural refects on one of the most vital issues of 20th century Argentine history, the battle between personal freedom and autocratic uniformity.”
