Special Interest Group Reflects on Imperatives Shaping U.S.-India Business Relations

The India Gateway and the Fisher College of Business hosted a round table conversation on July 22 at Taj Santacruz in Mumbai. The discussion featured key imperatives that are shaping U.S.-India business relations and brought together a group of alumni who are influencers across diverse domains such as academia, entrepreneurship, finance, healthcare and technology in private and government sectors in India.

The unique vantage point of the invitees within their current organizations, along with broad professional experience and excellent knowledge of working with U.S. businesses, enabled interesting insights. The group spoke about their education at the Fisher College of Business and its importance in their professional pursuits. Each participant elaborated on the current scenario of business in India defining scope, value and the key trends. It was also an opportunity for the group to learn about the engagements in India from Peter Ward, director of the Center of Operations Excellence, and about strategic perspectives on internationalization from Anil Makhija, dean of the Fisher College of Business, who joined in via video conference. The roundtable was designed to identify productive future engagements.

The nine invitees with over 225 years of collective work experience joined the conversation from Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai. Nikhil Tambe, director of the India Gateway, welcomed the group and set the stage for the special interest discussion. Makhija steered conversations providing an overview of priorities and accomplishments at the Fisher College of Business.
