New Memorandum of Understanding signed with the University of Global Health Equity

Through the Global One Health initiative (GOHi), The Ohio State University successfully established a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Rwanda that was signed on October 5.

This institutional commitment and formal integration are the result of years of discussion since UGHE’s inception with GOHi serving in an advisory capacity for UGHE’s One Health focus.

The university was officially launched in January of 2019 with a mission to help establish a world where every individual, no matter who they are or where they live, can lead a healthy and productive life by having access to more equitable, quality health services for all.

UGHE took part in the GOHi’s Global One Health Summer Institute and is preparing to host Ohio State student, Andrea Bessler, from the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine and Public Health, who is scheduled to conduct a service-learning project starting January 2021.

"The primary objective of my time will be spent assisting with curriculum implementation of a new Food Security Module being taught as part of the One Health concentration of the Master of Science in Global Health Delivery program,” said Bessler. “I will also be helping with other courses taught within the program, such as epidemiology and zoonotic infectious diseases. Working closely with Phaedra Henley, PhD, director of the Division of One Health, this externship will help broaden my knowledge and perspective on social determinants of health equity and global health issues faced outside of the United States."
