China Gateway Connecting with Admitted First Year Students

The China Gateway is helping Ohio State convince admitted first year students that the Buckeye state is the place to be autumn semester to start their college career in the United States.

The China Gateway is partnering with undergraduate admissions in the Office of Student Academic Success to host webinars for first year admitted students to provide more information about the university, answer questions and encourage them to commit to Ohio State.

In April the China Gateway hosted two webinars in Mandarin Chinese for first year admitted students living in China. These webinars were part of 15 sessions that undergraduate admissions hosted for all first year admitted students.

“The admissions team thought it would be helpful to host a Chinese webinar specifically for the Chinese students,” said Mali Tian, academic events coordinator for the China Gateway. “We shared a few stories related to Chinese students on campus to let the incoming students know how they can get involved.”

The China Gateway also is coordinating with the Fisher College of Business to host virtual Coffee Chats with first year admitted students.

The Coffee Chats will connect admitted first year students with Fisher alumni. By connecting former students with potential incoming students, the hope is the alumni will encourage these admitted students to select Ohio State as their university of choice.

The Coffee Chats will take place the second and third week of April.
