2018 Pre-Departure Orientation in China Sees Record Numbers

PDO 2018

Ohio State hosted its Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) in China for its sixth consecutive year in Beijing and Shanghai with record number of students attending each session.

Approximately 547 students and 567 parents registered for this year’s PDO.

PDO offers two sessions in each city to Chinese students who will be attending Ohio State and provides them with information to help them get an early adjustment to college in the United States. PDO also offers presentations to parents so that they better understand their student's future college experience and learn how they can best support their student's academic pursuits.

In addition to the orientation, students and families have the chance to attend one of two alumni receptions, hosted in both Beijing and Shanghai, where they meet Ohio State graduates who live and work in China.

Ohio State was one of the first universities in the United States to organize a Pre-Departure Orientation in China and has continue to host PDO because it significantly benefits students and parents.

Through PDO, students learn from student volunteers and university staff about available resources, the campus and the American college experience, and parents feel more confident about having their sons and daughters study abroad.

Pre-Departure Orientation is a collaboration among the Office of International Affairs, Office of Student Life and Office of Enrollment Services. Visit go.osu.edu/chinapdo to learn more.
