Apply Now for the O-H-I-O Education Abroad Scholarship

The Office of International Affairs is accepting applications for the O-H-I-O Education Abroad Scholarship.

The O-H-I-O Education Abroad Scholarship was established by the Office of International Affairs in 2016 to encourage participation in Ohio State education abroad opportunities among underrepresented and diverse student populations.

Ten $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to first-, second- or third-year students in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion Young Scholars Program.

Ohio State junior art management major Brii Spikes participated in the Brazilian Experience program with the O-H-I-O scholarship.

“Without this scholarship I would not have been able to attend this education abroad program,” Spikes said. “I was able to pay housing and tuition costs. I was able to learn so much about a new culture and how the knowledge affected my way of thinking. This scholarship was so helpful, and I was happy to be in Brazil debt free.”

Faith Lewis

Faith Lewis, Ohio State sophomore and zoology and pre-veterinary major, was an O-H-I-O scholarship recipient and participated in the Global May Uganda education abroad program.

“O-H-I-O helped cover the final balance of my study abroad fees, and it was such a weight off of my shoulders because I wasn't sure if I'd be able to go otherwise,” Lewis said. “It assisted in what became an eye opening experience.”

Lewis said the purpose of the O-H-I-O scholarship is to expand worldviews and create experiences a student not might have otherwise.

“Study abroad is expensive, and it’s nice to have help,” Lewis said. “The scholarship is accessible and geared towards a more diverse community, and you don't have anything to lose by applying. The main goal of the scholarship is to help make new pathways possible.”

Students wishing to apply for the O-H-I-O Education Abroad Scholarship must submit their applications to Robert Bennett III, special assistant to the executive director, with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at bennett.460@osu.edu by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 1.
