Orientation welcomes new international students to Ohio State

Ohio State expects to welcome close to 1,700 international students to campus this August. The students will travel to Columbus, Ohio from around the world to pursue their undergraduate, graduate, professional and doctoral degrees.

Over the next month, all students will participate in one of six orientation sessions that provide essential information about campus safety, academic conduct, immigration and cultural adjustments. The Office of International Affairs will also provide numerous resources and programs to welcome students and prepare them for autumn semester.

Leading up to the start of classes, our student Welcome Team and Orientation Leaders will offer their help to new students by answering questions, assisting with the check-in process and leading social activities such as group dinners, campus tours and trips to local attractions.

These student workers will help lead events around Columbus and serve as ambassadors at two welcome booth locations: Port Columbus International Airport and the Ohio Union. These locations serve as a resource for students to seek information about check-in, transportation and housing. As part of the Office of International Affairs Airport Welcome Program, there will be free airport shuttles to campus multiple times a day during the three weeks of orientation.

The Office of International Affairs is using a Guidebook mobile app for the second year to help assist with orientation and the additional programs scheduled for August. This guide provides access to important information including a calendar of events, campus maps, interactive photo albums, office contact information and other ways to connect to the Office of International Affairs through social media. The app is available for download at oia.osu.edu.
