Participate in the International Student Experience Workshop Series

Ohio State is home to more than 6,500 international students who are a vibrant part of the campus community and interact with faculty and staff every single day.

To educate faculty and staff about how they can work more effectively with the international student population, the Office of International Affairs developed the International Student Experience Workshop Series

The workshop has three sessions that cover three large themes: Pre-Arrival, Check-In and Orientation, Cultural Adjustment and Academics and Career Expectations.

The sessions will include presentations by staff from the Office of International Affairs and other offices on campus, as well as a panel of international students who will answer questions and share experiences on the selected topics. Faculty and staff are encouraged to register for all three workshops, and those who complete the three-part series will receive a training certificate.

“I decided to participate in the series because a majority of our students are international, so I wanted to learn more about their experiences coming to the United States and their expectations when they are here,” said Angela Bennett, graduate program coordinator in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.

This year will be the third time that the Office of International Affairs will host the series. Caroline Omolesky, program officer for sponsored programs and academic liaison, plans and runs the workshops.

“I think these workshops have achieved our goal of giving staff a clearer sense for what it’s like to be an international student, the restrictions they’re under, the challenges they face and how they can best serve this population,” said Omolesky.

Registration is now filled. We are planning on hosting this workshop in the spring as well. Please contact Caroline Omolesky with questions.
