Mandela Fellows to Present Ignite Talks

Mandela Washington FellowsThe 25 Mandela Washington Fellows hosted by Ohio State will present their Ignite Talks on Monday, July 24 from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. in Saxbe Auditorium in Drinko Hall. Fellows will each share their personal vision for progress and change in Africa during a three to five minute presentation. The Ignite Talks are a culmination of the fellows' six-week stay in Columbus to participate in a Public Management Institute coordinated by the John Glenn College of Public Affairs and the Center for African Studies.

The talks will focus on the specific themes of empowerment, innovation and servant leadership and will address health, food security and social justice.

This is the second consecutive year that Ohio State is one of just 38 academic institutions across the United States hosting a cohort of 25 Mandela Washington Fellows, all young professionals between the ages of 25 and 35. Ohio State’s public management and leadership program weaves a sequence of leadership development modules into the institute’s classroom activities, site visits, community service, cultural immersion, and professional networking opportunities, both on and off campus.

About the Mandela Washington Fellowship

The Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF) is the flagship program of the U.S. Department of State Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). Through this initiative, young African leaders gain the skills and connections they need to accelerate their career and contribute more robustly to strengthening democratic institutions, spurring economic growth, and enhancing peace and security in Africa. Read their online biographies to learn more about the fellows, and view oia.osu.edu/yali to follow their experience at Ohio State and in Columbus.
