Bhavik Bakshi, a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, recently visited India to attend the IIT-Bombay Symposium on Sustainable Development on July 26, 2017. As one of the organizers and a research expert in sustainable engineering, he presented at the conference.

More than 100 professionals from academic, industrial and non- governmental organizations (NGO) attended the July 26 symposium on sustainability at IIT- Bombay. The symposium was held to discuss the critical challenges, find innovative solutions, and share success stories in sustainable development. Sessions also explored the role of science and engineering in sustainability and brought sustainability and resiliency studies to the forefront of engineering research and development initiatives.

The symposium addressed a wide variety of topics including the challenges of NGOs in creating sustainable farming communities; the growing need for technologies and engineering professionals to provide innovative solutions to the current electricity and water crisis in India; and sustainable recycling of land, water, urban and industrial waste with current innovative technologies. IIT Bombay engineering students also had an opportunity to showcase their projects and network with corporations.

Abhay Satoskar visits Mumbai to engage support for health conferenceAbhay Satoskar, M.D., a professor in the Division of Experimental Pathology and Department of Microbiology at Ohio State, is already preparing for a two-day conference on International Emerging Infectious Disease to be held in November 2018 in Mumbai. During his visit to India in June, Satoskar and Priya Kurle, assistant director of the Ohio State India Gateway, met with Sujata Saunik, ‎principal secretary (financial reforms) with the Government of Maharashtra to provide an update on the conference and gain support. The two also plan to meet with a variety of stakeholders including delegates from state and central government as well as corporate representatives.
