Abishek Gupta expanding collaborations in India

Abhishek Gupta discussed potential collaborations with academic institutes and industry partners during a recent visit to Ohio State’s India Gateway. A faculty member in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ohio State, Gupta is building on his current collaboration with the OSU-IIT-Bombay partnership.

Gupta is currently in India to present his research at IIT-Bombay and is develop a joint program in the area of machine learning. He is also working with Tata Consultancy Services in the areas of cyber security and privacy.

The National Science Foundation Innovation Corps program has awarded a $50,000 grant to C.K. Shum, professor and distinguished university scholar, and Tang-Yi Yang, in the School of Earth Sciences, to develop a prototype to monitor floods, droughts and freshwater resources at basin scales globally. They will use geodetic a satellite-based gravity observational system and the associated cloud based computing tools to conduct their research.

Ohio State’s I-Corps team is composed of Shum, Yang and Ratnesh Bhattacharya, director of the university’s India Gateway in Mumbai. The NSF I-Corps program is an immersive learning experience which will prepare the I-Corps team to go beyond the bounds of traditional instruction to engage with industry, customers and competitors and translate Ohio State faculty research innovations into products and processes that benefit society.

Waste Management Conference in MumbaiMore than 400 professionals from the private and public sectors attended the Waste Management Innovation Conference in Mumbai on April 17-18, 2017 to identify innovative solutions to reduce waste in India in order to help the economy achieve sustainable growth.

The U.S. Consulate in Mumbai, sponsor of the conference, established a seed capital fund to invest in promising new initiatives, such as innovative waste reduction or avoidance technologies and practices. Proposals for funding will be solicited based on the results of the conference, and Ohio State will award and monitor the grants over the next year.
