History

The Ohio State University’s history of 60+ years of partnership and strategic engagement with India is rooted in a vision of knowledge sharing and institutional education development. Ohio State’s first engagement in India took place in the area of agrarian development through the creation of three agricultural universities across three Indian states, including Punjab. During this time, Ohio State and regional university partners worked through bilateral programming to contribute to the development of the Indian Institute of Technology at its inception.

Beginning with the India Gateway in 2012, the university has advanced engagement with a number of Indian higher education institutions in a range of disciplines, including the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-Bombay), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Avinashilingam University for Women, PSG Institute, and Tata Memorial Hospital, S. P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) among others. Ohio State alumni serve as leaders and faculty at a range of reputed institutions and industry throughout India and beyond.

The India Gateway currently supports active engagement with more than 200 faculty members across 12 colleges at Ohio State and tens of others via a range of engagement modes. Apart from colleges and individual faculty, strategic partners include the Center for Operational Excellence, Center for Education and Training for Employment (CETE), Global Water Institute (GWI), Infectious Disease Institute, Institute for Materials Research (IMR), The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, among others.
