Mumbai conference explores solutions for waste management in India

Waste Management Conference in MumbaiMore than 400 professionals from the private and public sectors attended the Waste Management Innovation Conference in Mumbai on April 17-18, 2017 to identify innovative solutions to reduce waste in India in order to help the economy achieve sustainable growth.

The U.S. Consulate in Mumbai, sponsor of the conference, established a seed capital fund to invest in promising new initiatives, such as innovative waste reduction or avoidance technologies and practices. Proposals for funding will be solicited based on the results of the conference, and Ohio State will award and monitor the grants over the next year.

Thomas L Vajda, U.S. Consul General in India said that “individual, community, and global responsibility are required to reach the next milestone towards a green and inclusive economy in the United States and … in India.” He also recognized Ohio State's efforts in organizing the conference as well as Priya Kurle, academic manager of the India Gateway, for her planning efforts.

The conference was coordinated with the help of the Ohio State India Gateway in conjunction with the India Institute of Technology Bombay. Visit discovery.osu.edu to learn more about the success of the conference. To view Vajda’s complete remarks, visit usembassy.gov.
