2017 Fulbright Week at Ohio State

Fulbright Week at Ohio State, April 17-21The Office of International Affairs, the Graduate School and the Undergraduate Fellowship Office have combined their efforts to plan a week full of events acknowledging past Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays recipients; hosting workshops, information sessions and open houses; and informing faculty, undergraduate and graduate students about the opportunities available through the Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays programs. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to participate in any of the Fulbright Week sessions held during the week of April 17 - 21, 2017. Fulbright and Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA): What is the Difference?
10 - 11 a.m., 100 Enarson Classroom Building

A presentation by Joanna Kukielka-Blaser, Program Director of Fulbright-Hays and Theresa Hazelwood, Director of Fellowship Services, for graduate students interested in applying for Fulbright or Fulbright-Hays DDRA grants. Kuwait at the Intersection of Yesterday and Tomorrow: a Fulbright Scholar's Experience

Magda El-Sherbini, professor and head of collection description and access department, The Ohio State University Libraries, will give a presents on her recent experience in Kuwait where she spent 6 weeks as a Fulbright Scholar. El-Sherbini conducted research and offered training on various aspects of cataloging and librarianship at the American University of Kuwait Library. The presentation will cover her scholarly activity at AUK as well as her cultural experience that included a stint at the Kuwait International Book Fair and a camping experience in the Kuwaiti desert. Come and enjoy a taste of Kuwaiti dates, the indigenous fruit of Kuwait, a slide presentation and a small display of items from Kuwait. Fulbright and Administrators - International Education Administrator (IEA) Seminars

Learn about opportunities available to professional staff through the Fulbright International Education Administrator Seminars (IEA Seminar). The IEA seminars are designed for U.S. higher education administrators interested in spending an intensive two-week seminar in one of six countries: India, Japan, Korea, Germany, France, or Taiwan. Each seminar offers participants an in-depth look at the higher education system, culture and society of the host country. The seminars also provide an invigorating opportunity for networking with international and U.S. colleagues. Fulbright Scholar Campus Liaison and recipients of IEA grant will discuss their experiences with the application process and share tips for successful grant application preparation. Fulbright Visiting Scholar Yemataw Wondie: Teaching, Research, and Services at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia
3 - 4 p.m., 160 Enarson Classroom Building

Dr. Yemataw Wondie is a Fulbright research scholar at University of Montana for 2016/2017. He is an Associate Professor of Psychology and Editor-in-Chief of the Ethiopian Renaissance Journal of Social Sciences and the Humanities at the University of Gondar. Wondie served on different administrative capacities in his home institution including Director General for Teaching/Learning Core Process (equivalent to academic associate provost position), delegate Academic Vice President, and Director of Education Quality Assurance and Audit Directorate. He received his PhD from the University of Leipzig, Germany in Clinical Psychology (2009) and his MA and BA from Addis Ababa University in Special Needs Education (2003) and Psychology (1997), respectively. His research interest is on child and adolescent trauma, depression and quality of live related with patients with terminal illness.
