Fulbright Workshop Schedule - Summer 2022

Established in 1946, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program aims to increase mutual understanding between the United States and other countries through the exchange of people, knowledge, and skills. It is the largest U.S. international exchange program, offering opportunities for recent graduates, postgraduate candidates, and developing professionals and artists to conduct career-launching study and research in more than 140 countries worldwide.

The Office of International Affairs provides comprehensive support to Ohio State graduate students interested in pursuing a Fulbright. Graduate students applying for the FY2023-2024 grant cycle must register their intent to apply for Fulbright by completing the Fulbright Interest Registration Form to be sent to Laura Pearce.

The Office of International Affairs offers information and workshop sessions for graduate student applicants to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. These sessions have been designed to help students with the entire writing process, from brainstorming through to final drafts. Please refer to the schedule below.

Choosing Your Fulbright U.S. Student Program Award
How do you determine the Fulbright U.S. Student Program award that is best for you? In this information session, we will go over eligibility, types of awards, and how to read the posted award description to determine if you fit the criteria and if it will help you achieve your goals.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program Open Study/Research: Securing Affiliations
Securing a strong affiliation with a host institution is a vital component of a Fulbright U.S. Student Program Open Study/Research application. In this session, we will discuss how to establish a relationship and secure the affiliations that will form the foundation of your Fulbright project.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program: Recommendations
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program requires three recommendations as part of any application. In this session, we will discuss recommendation requirements for different awards and to what your recommenders should include in their submission.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program Open Study/Research (S/R) Statement of Grant Purpose Workshop
The Statement of Grant Purpose forms the core argument of why your project should receive a Fulbright U.S. Student Program Open Study/Research award. In this workshop, we will discuss the requirements, formatting, and topics to include, helping you to develop your Statement of Grant Purpose through brainstorming and a review of samples.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Statement of Grant Purpose Workshop
The Statement of Grant Purpose forms the core argument of why you fit the needs of the Fulbright U.S. Student Program English Teaching Assistant grant. In this workshop, we will discuss the requirements, formatting, and topics to include, helping you to develop your Statement of Grant Purpose through brainstorming and a review of samples.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program: Host Country Engagement
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is both an education and a diplomatic program. As part of your application, you will need to show your plans for meaningful involvement with your host community. This information session will provide samples of host country engagement projects and outline how to address host country engagement throughout your application.

Fulbright U.S. Student Program Open Study/Research (S/R) Personal Statement Workshop
The Personal Statement is a key component of your Fulbright U.S. Student Program application. In this workshop, you will learn different strategies for approaching the statement, what to include, what not to include, and complete outlining and sample review exercises.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program contains multiple short answer essays and various fields for filling in your experience in lieu of a formal CV. In this session, we will discuss how to approach each of these sections to include the most crucial information.

The Campus Committee Interview is an opportunity to meet with Ohio State faculty with Fulbright experience to gain feedback on your Fulbright application. This information session will prepare you to take full advantage of the Campus Committee Interview to strengthen your application.
