Faculty Grants

International Affairs Academic Enrichment Grant

Purpose
This grant competition, with separate tracks for faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate students, is sponsored by the Office of International Affairs, the Office of Research and the Office of Undergraduate Education.

Proposals are sought for a wide range of research projects, including those that:

  • Promote active research collaborations
  • Address global issues in a regional context
  • Connect discipline-specific research to the implementation of projects and programs in diverse geopolitical and cultural settings
  • Explore the languages, cultures, arts, social sciences and area studies

Project Criteria
The competition supports proposals from all academic disciplines for proposed research projects in any world region.

Proposals for specific research projects can request funds to support:

  • Travel expenses related to research or a research collaboration (transportation, lodging, airfare, other)
  • Research project expenses (eg. acquiring data, supplies and materials)
  • Development of faculty manuscripts and publications
  • Costs for development and hosting of a conference, workshop, speaker series (professional conference travel is not eligible for support)
  • PhD dissertation and pre-dissertation research, MA thesis projects, faculty guided undergraduate student research projects

Awards
Grants awareded will be between $500 and $8,000.

  • Applicants with winning grant proposals will be informed the first week of April 2018
  • Award funds for faculty and graduate students are distributed in the form of a budget transfer to the applicant's home department
  • Funds may be accessed during the term of the award from April 2018 to June 30, 2019

Proposal Preparation

  • Abstract and research proposal: Abstract should not exceed one page (double spaced, 12 pt. font); research proposal should be three to five pages (double spaced, 12 pt. font). Please only include the title of the project and not the applicant(s) name(s) 
  • Itemized budget
  • A short (not to exceed two pages) curriculum vitae (CV) or resume of the applicant(s)

Proposal Submission:

  • Complete online application and submit all required materials by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2018
  • Sample application. This form is for reference only and should be used to prepare responses for the online application. Do not complete this form and upload it to the online application as it will not be accepted.
