Peer Advisors

Peer Advisors are undergraduate or graduate students who play an integral role in introducing new international students to Ohio State by connecting new students to important university resources and policies as well as sharing their experiences as successful students. Throughout the academic year, Peer Advisors assist our incoming students and their families in a variety of capacities, all to make the newest members of our community excited and prepared to achieve a successful beginning to their Ohio State career. Peer Advisors work in collaboration with other Peer Advisors, Office of International Affairs (OIA) professional staff and other OSU administrators to ensure that new students have a positive check-in and orientation experience. Signature Event Student Chairs

If you are a student interested in putting your organizational and leadership skills to the test, then you should apply to become the co-chair, or chair-elect, of one of our signature events - Thanksgiving or Taste of OSU.

Applicants for the Thanksgiving co-chair position should be rising juniors and seniors. Students interested in applying for the Taste of OSU chair-elect position will need to be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in spring 2020. If selected as Taste of OSU chair-elect, the student will be mentored throughout the Taste of OSU 2019 planning process so he or she will be ready to assume the position of chair of Taste of OSU in February 2020.

Global Ambassadors

Global ambassadors are a diverse team of students committed to promoting cultural exchange at The Ohio State University. As volunteers with the Office of International Affairs, Global Ambassadors demonstrate a commitment to the mission of the Office of International Affairs, which seeks the engagement of students, staff and faculty in the global Ohio State community. Applications are currently open until March 29, 11:59 p.m.


  • Leading Global Engagement Night discussions
  • Developing campus partnerships
  • Planning engaging cultural programs
  • Promoting Global Engagement across campus
  • Attending biweekly planning meetings
  • Attending Global Engagement Night meetings (every Tuesday at 6 p.m.)
  • Coordinating events centered around the nine dimensions of wellness
  • Assisting with other Office of International Affairs events as needed


China Pre-Departure Orientation Volunteers

The Office of International Affairs seeks both American and international students interested in volunteering at the China Pre-Departure Orientation in the summer.

Students who will be in China this summer are encouraged to apply. Orientations will be held in Shanghai and Beijing from during June. Responsibilities will include greeting future students and their parents, as well as presenting on a variety of orientation topics.


Global Engagement Orientation Leaders

The Global Engagement orientation leaders team is a group of diverse student leaders who welcome new international students to Ohio State and the city of Columbus at the Airport Welcome Center and the Ohio Union Welcome Booth. Orientation leaders are responsible for leading group activities, including shopping trips, group meals, sporting events and game nights, while also helping at orientation events including the International Student Resource Fair, campus tours and greeting students at orientation sessions.

Students who apply for a position as an orientation leader with Global Engagement should be available to work 36-48 hours per week from Monday, July 20-Sunday, August 23.

Global Leadership Initiative

The Global Leadership Initiative program is a prestigious year-long program designed to prepare Ohio State undergraduate students to foster global citizenship and to enhance their strengths in various cultural contexts in order to become a more successful future leader in the global community.

For international students, first and second year students are preferred; those who have an open mind and are accountable. For domestic students, second and third year students are preferred, and who have some leadership experience and are interested in other cultures. They are paired as partners to learn from each other.

The overall goal of the Global Leadership Initiative is to develop friendship, leadership skills, great networking opportunities and a better understanding of the similarities and differences between cultures. The Global Leadership Initiative hopes to achieve this goal through a globalized campus, cultural awareness and a focus on career professionalism. Application is closed.

Exchange Partner Program

Exchange Partners are current Ohio State students who are matched with incoming international exchange students, who are on campus for one semester or the full year. Exchange Partners serve as a resource for the exchange students prior to their arrival and assist with their social and cultural adjustment once on campus. Exchange Partners plan and attend events with their partners on and off campus throughout the academic year and generally help the exchange students feel comfortable at Ohio State and in Columbus.

Interested students should be current Ohio State undergraduates with a GPA of 2.0 or higher, who are open-minded and committed to cross-cultural exchange, willing and eager to learn about other cultures and ready to take initiative.
