Panel Discussion: Doing Business in Emerging Markets

How can multinationals, entrepreneurs and investors identify opportunities and respond to new challenges while conducting business in emerging markets?

The panel will outline the unique challenges and approaches to business in emerging markets, stemming from professional experiences in China, India and Brazil and engage with students and faculty on approaches to develop cross-cultural strategies when partnering with international stakeholders, navigating government relations, identifying local opportunities and addressing risk management.

This event is open to the public and will be held Wednesday, March 20 from 4 – 5 p.m. in 202 Pfahl Conference Center, followed immediately by a networking reception until 5:30 p.m. on the 2nd-floor lobby of Pfahl Conference Center (2110 Tuttle Park Place, Columbus, OH 43210).

Rodolfo Bellesi

Founder and principal at IKOVE Capital, a venture development company in technology commercialization, Rodolfo Bellesi has 15 years business experience in Brazil. He was senior vice president of technology at MB Capital focusing on proprietary deals in northern Brazil and founder and president at BR Trading Consultoria LTDA. Bellisi acted as general country manager for the mining conglomerate Energold Brasil. He earned his MBA in entrepreneurship from Babson College, an master's in electrical engineering from Ohio State and a bachelor's in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Paraná.

Steve Crandall

General manager of Asia Growth Solutions, Steve Crandall has 22 years experience in China, leading teams in strategy analysis, opportunity assessment, acquisition strategy/pipelines and channel development/management across multiple sectors. He has worked with large multinationals including Cardinal Health, Abbot Labs and McDonalds. His private startup experience includes a Ford dealership in Tianjin, China. Crandall earned an MBA in finance from California State University - San Bernardino and a bachelor's in international marketing from Ohio State.

Ardeshir Contractor

Executive in residence with the Ohio State's Institute for Materials Research, Ardeshir Contractor has 32 years multisector experience in India. He chairs India’s solar energy task force at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and is an adjunct research associate with Edhec Infrastructure Institute (Singapore) in long-term asset finance principles. He addressed the United Nations at the 2015 Paris Climate Change Conference and worked on the United Nations Development Programme’s Enquiry designing a global sustainable financial system. He earned his master's in mechanical engineering from Ohio State and a BT in mechanical engineering from IIT Bombay.

Rafael Corredoira

Rafael Corredoira will be the panel moderator. Rafael is an assistant professor of management and human resources at the Fisher College of Business. He has 10 years of business experience at Compañia Bão, the largeset and oldest household product firm in Uruguay, where, as CEO and COO, he led the firm in its technological reconversion, organizational restructuring, mergers and acquisitions and foreign market expansion during the creation of MERCOSUR, the political and economic bloc comprising of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela. His research focuses on embedded exploration and is published in many leading journals. He earned his PhD in strategy and international management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
