“I chose this program because I’ve always wanted to travel to Africa. As an African American, my identity is constantly linked to a continent on which I’ve never been. Although the various countries in Africa differ greatly, I felt it important to be able to explore at least one of these countries, and have the opportunity to experience its culture and beauty. I also chose this program because it explored different regions of the country, instead of remaining in one city the whole time. I was able to live in both rural and urban regions, while experiencing the social and economic differences of each place first-hand.

Studying abroad benefited my college experience by piquing my interest for international students and international affairs here at Ohio State. Since my study abroad experience I’ve started working at the Office of International Affairs, I've become the student representative for The International Travel Policy Committee here on campus, and I’ve gotten to know incredible international students through OIA events.

My favorite memory of my study abroad experience was when our group took a sunset cruise down the Nile River. At one point during the cruise, we got to stop at the source of the Nile (where Lake Victoria feeds into the Nile), and were able to get out of our boat and actually stand in the river. It was such a cool experience. I don’t think I could have been happier in that moment.”
