Study Abroad Profile: Jack Doran

O-H-I-O in TurkeyProgram: Architecture - Istanbul (Honors & Scholars)
Location: Turkey
Rank: Sophomore
Major: Pre-Architecture

“I went in feeling uncomfortable and out of place, and I left wanting to come back again. Istanbul's whole culture is so much different than America's and it was a really interesting experience to be the minority in such a large country. We were given lots of free time to walk around by ourselves, and through that time, I felt a sense of discovery that I hadn't felt since I was little. I sketched buildings that were so historically important that Istanbul named a section of the city after it. I really can't put everything that I felt down to words, because it was the first time I had ever been inside a different country, and there were so many new experiences that I had that I don't even remember. Overall this study abroad program was probably one of the best choices I've made so far. I hope to travel to Italy or Greece in my Junior Year to study architecture with my peers in the future.”
