Ohio State doctoral candidate awarded Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Grant

nicole freeman 0101 640pxNikki Freeman, a doctoral candidate in the Ohio State Department of History, has been awarded the prestigious 2017 Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad (DDRA) grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

Doctoral candidates can engage in full-time dissertation research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies through the DDRA grant.

Freeman will be in Poland and Germany from December 4, 2017, to August 4, 2018, to research “A Time to Rebuild—The Education and Rehabilitation of Jewish Children in Postwar Germany and Poland.” Her research will examine the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee and its collaborative efforts on behalf of Jewish children in Poland and Allied-occupied Germany from 1945 to 1953.

Freeman’s advisor is Associate Professor Robin Judd in the Department of History.

The Office of International Affairs administers the Fulbright-Hays program for The Ohio State University, and grant competitions are held annually. Doctoral candidates interested in applying for the award should contact Fulbright-Hays program director, Joanna Kukielka-Blaser.
