2019 O-H-I-O Education Abroad Scholarship RecipientsEstablished in 2016 by the Office of International Affairs in collaboration with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the O-H-I-O Education Abroad Scholarship supports underrepresented and diverse student access to Ohio State education abroad programs. The scholarship competition resulted in 10 first and second year students from the Young Scholars Program selected to receive a $2,000 scholarship to apply toward an Ohio State education abroad program of their choice.

IMG 20181230 095220Mia Feist, a third year civil engineering major and humanitarian engineering minor, studied abroad in Ghana through the Engineering Service-Learning in Ghana program during winter break 2018. 

When I first started college, my only goal was to travel as much as I could. I started by spending a week in Guatemala for another study abroad program, followed by an internship through the same organization this past summer. This helped ingnite my passion for humanitarian work. I spent hours looking through study abroad options, and Africa always stuck out the most to me. This program allowed me to travel along to a rural area of Ghana, known as Kpando, to see first hand the effects of malnourishment and unfiltered water has on the surrounding communities. It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up.

MeganSmithMegan Smith, a sophomore majoring in biology with a minor in Spanish, and Jada Edwards, a senior majoring in teaching English to speakers of other languages, are the recipients of the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. Smith and Edwards are two of nearly 1,000 American undergraduate students across the United States selected to receive this scholarship to study abroad during the 2018-2019 academic year.
