China Gateway News

To receive news and updates from the China Gateway — including information on international agreements, alumni gatherings, networking events and Ohio State students, faculty and staff in China — please register your interest in the Gateway. 

Faculty traveling to China are encouraged to notify Gateway director Phoebe You of their impending visit. The staff at the Shanghai office can help by facilitating focused networking, targeted recruitment and support for scholarly work abroad. The Gateways can also help identify accommodations and provide recommendations and general wayfinding. 

GlobalGatewayGrantSponsored by the Office of International Affairs Global Gateways, the Ohio State Graduate School and the Council of Graduate Students, the Global Gateways Student Research Abroad Grant encourages and promotes the professional and academic development of graduate student researchers at Ohio State.

The grant provides financial support that allows students to undertake thesis or dissertation research abroad, and thus work toward the completion of their degree. Awardees also will assist the university pursue its strategic international goals by creating and bolstering relations with universities and other institutions across the world. All graduate students conducting such research abroad internationally this summer are encouraged to apply.

He Ran1He Ran, Bachelor of Science in Finance ’14 and Master of Agricultural Environmental Development Economics ’16, is a member of the Beijing Alumni Club and a project manager at Huatai Insurance Brokers.

When He graduated with her master’s and returned to China, she had the idea of creating a photo album of Ohio State’s campus and favorite places around Columbus for the Beijing Alumni Club. For the last two years, He and the Beijing Alumni Club have worked on this photo album by hiring a photographer in Columbus and compiling the photos in a book.

Monica coupleOhio State students Shilin Li, Jiayi Chen, Hongbin Chen from the Chinese Student and Scholars Society sat down with Monica Xia, Ohio State alumna who earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting, and Patrick McAloon, Ohio State alumnus who earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in East Asian Studies, to discuss their time at Ohio State, professional development and time management skills.

Monica and Patrick both live in Columbus, co-own two companies, Sino-Connect and Columbus Living, and are on the board of directors of the Columbus China-US Chamber of Commerce.
