Study Abroad Alumna: Kristina Weiss Minton

I remember looking through the course listings for my final quarter at Ohio State and when I saw the class about the Lost Generation and a trip to Paris, I couldn’t be more excited. I had already traveled to Paris with a group from my high school and I had been dying to go back.
I loved my experience studying abroad and honestly, had I done something like that earlier in my college career, I would have done another one. I learned so much, met some great people and got to spend my spring break in my favorite city in the world. Currently I teach advanced junior-level English classes, and every spring I teach The Great Gatsby, as well as some other expatriate pieces. I always share some of my photos of Gertrude Stein’s salon, Pablo Picasso’s house and the famed Les Deux Margots.
Since I had such a great experience as a student, I knew I wanted to return abroad as a teacher. In the summer of 2010, I took a group of students to Greece and Italy. We got to see the ruins at Delphi, the Parthenon, the Coliseum and the Vatican Museum. I was able to bring myth, history and literature to life for my students, just as it had been done for me. It was an amazing experience that I hope to repeat someday soon.
