Kessia Cericola is an Ohio State Moritz College Of Law alumna, Columbus Attorney, and Chair Of The GCSCI Curitiba Committee.

I moved to Columbus, Ohio in 2008 right after I finished my Bachelor of Law and passed the Brazilian Bar exam. I decided to go back to school in 2011, when I applied to the LL.M. program at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. As an LL.M. student, I had the opportunity to meet students from many different countries, and I learned as much with them as I learned in the classroom. After I graduated, I decided to fulfill the requirements to sit for the Ohio Bar. Once the Supreme Court of Ohio approved my education, I studied day and night to pass the test. Thankfully I passed. The support and encouragement that I received from my friends, family and mentors – in special from Jim Lewis, co-chair of the Moritz LL.M. Council, were essential during that time.

The Brazil Gateway team represented Moritz College of Law and the first EducationUSA LL.M Tour in South America!

Academic Relations and Alumni Community Manager, Jane K. Aparecido, participated in the tour that took place in three major Brazilian cities, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and São Paulo. Approximately 900 people attended the three fairs to learn more about the LL.M (master of laws) degree offered by the Moritz College of Law and other American universities that also had representatives at the fairs.

With the goal to increase relationships in Brazil, leadership from the Fisher College of Business spent three days, August 1-3, in São Paulo, meeting with leading universities and industry partners and engaging with alumni, Ohio State friends and prospective students.

Dean Anil Makhija and Senior Associate Dean and Professor Peter Ward visited top public and private universities in São Paulo and in nearby São Bernardo do Campo (recognized as a manufacturing epicenter of Brazil) to build relationships and explore collaborations that will provide global opportunities for Fisher students and faculty.

During their trip, Makhija delivered the keynote address at the National Finance Forum, jointly organized by Visagio and The Ohio State University. Visagio is a global consulting firm with offices in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, London, Perth and Moscow. At the Finance Forum, Makhija’s presentation focused on the financial and operational opportunities and challenges of middle market firms in Brazil, the United States and globally.
