Study Abroad Application Guide PDF Print

Research Study Abroad options prior to accessing the Study Abroad application. Attend a Getting Started session and learn how to select a program that is the best fit for you. Review the Program Information sheets and Language and Region guides. If you have attended a Getting Started session and have begun to research your options but are still unsure of which program to select, please meet with a study abroad coordinator during Program Exploration walk-in hours.

Make sure your address and contact information is up to date at buckeyelink.osu.edu. The address and phone number fields on the applicaiton will auto-fill with the information already on file. Any mailings pertaining to your study abroad program will be sent to the address on file with the university.

You must have the following information available as you begin the application process:

  • Passport number - If you have applied for a passport and have not yet received it or if you have not yet applied for a passport, you may still complete the online application. Please be advised that a passport is required to participate in any study abroad program. Visit Get a Passport for more information.
  • Prepared personal statement - Write and submit a one page personal statement that includes information about you, your academic interests, and motivation for studying abroad.
  • Ohio State Advising Report - Prior to beginning the study abroad application, download and save a copy of your advising report to submit with your application.
  • Names and contact information of individuals - To be contacted in case of an emergency.

You must be prepared to pay a $150 application fee. Once you submit your application, the $150 application fee will post to your University STatement of Account and is to be paid no more than three days after submission of the application. It is recommended that you play the application fee immediately after submitting your application. The application fee will be refunded only if you are not accepted or submit a written request to withdraw your applicaiton prior to the application deadline.

Study Abroad Online Application. All fields of the application must be completed or an error messagew ill result when you submit th eapplication. Prior to submitting your application, review all information entered to ensure there are no errors; once you submit your application you will not be able to make any changes. Upon application submission, the $150 application fee will be assessed to your University Statement  of Account. To submit payment for the applicatoin fee:

  • Go to buckeylink.osu.edu.
  • In the Students section, under the heading SIS Student Center, select the "Student Center" link.
  • Log in with your OSU username and password.
  • Scroll down to the Finances section of your student center home page
  • Click on "Make A Payment" to access and complete the payment form.

For your application to be considered complete, a Study Abroad Recommendation is required. The recommendation is due no later than the application deadline. The Academic Recommendation Invitation should be sent to a Professor or Graduate Teaching Associate (GTA) who has taught you in the classroom and is able to comment on your qualificatons for study abroad. Prior to sending an academic recommendation invitation:

  • Notify the Professor/TA from whom you wish to request a recommendation.
  • Discuss with your Professor/TA the deadline by which s/he is to respond. Once the deadline for a response has passed, your Professor/TA will not be able to access the recommendation system.

Refund Policy. If you withdraw any time after the date of your notification of acceptance to a study abroad program, you will be responsible for any non-recoverable costs that have been incurred on your behalf plus a $200 cancellation fee.
