Student Exchange Agreements

Ohio State students participating in an exchange program follow these enrollment processes:

  • Participants remain registered at Ohio State while studying abroad, thus enabling them to access university, state, and federal financial aid;
  • Participants earn graded Ohio State credit;
  • OIA staff provide advising, pre-departure orientation, and other critical services to participants.

International students coming to Ohio State as part of an exchange program follow these enrollment processes:

  • Participants are registered in a full set of classes at Ohio State as non-degree students while remaining degree candidates at their home institution;
  • Participants earn graded Ohio State credit that they can transfer to their degree program at the home institution;
  • OIA staff provide pre-arrival assistance and post-arrival orientation, and other critical services to participants.

Instructions for Development of a Student Exchange

Student exchanges are initiated by faculty and academic departments. Proposals for new exchange programs must carry the explicit endorsement of appropriate departmental and college administrators.

If you decide that you wish to establish an exchange agreement for the benefit of your academic unit and college, please schedule an appointment with Grace Johnson, director of study abroad, by contacting Gretchen Turner at . New student exchange programs are subject to specific guidelines with appropriate review and approval at the department and college level, consistent with the unique curricular needs and expectations of the academic unit. All faculty who wish to initiate a new student exchange program must also complete the New Student Exchange Agreement Proposal Form.
