The Office of International Affairs offers professional development workshops for educators on themes and current political, social, economic, and cultural events in world regions related to Ohio State’s five Area Studies Centers.
Ohio State Middle East Studies Center and Kibbutzim College of Education, Technology and the Arts are providing Ohio teachers with a program to study with Israeli teachers and explore a country of diverse cultural, political and geographic challenges. This program offers Graduate Credit or Professional Development contact hours. Most of the program will take place in Tel Aviv the largest costal urban center. Field trips to other parts of this small country (the size of New Jersey) are also included. This experience will challenge your global engagement and provide you with tools to internationalize your teaching. View scholarships and experience learning abroad program.
From 2005 to 2007 the educator workshops were called "Global Hot Spots" as they were devoted to recent ‘hot’ topics in five regions, teachers from Central Ohio attended those workshops and as with all our workshops, they were awarded professional contact hours.
A Fall 2008 professional development course was devoted to recent elections in different counties that made headlines in international news. The objective of this course was to provide educators with information as well as the tools to explain, explore, and compare international election processes in which our own national elections are in the forefront of the daily discussions.
