En la puta vida The Center for Latin American Studies continues to feature young Latin American women film makers with a presentation of “En la puta vida” on Wednesday (5/14) at 7:30 p.m. in Hagerty Hall.

The main character Elisa dreams of opening her own hairdressing salon in one of the rich districts of the Uruguayan capital. A bit of a rebel, a series of traumatic events leads Elisa to find work in a local brothel, and soon she winds up in a downward spiral into prostitution that leads her to Barcelona, Spain. The film's mix of drama, comedy and social commentary has made it a film festival favorite.

Directed by Beatriz Flores Silva, the film is free and has English subtitles. It runs for 97 minutes.

Tricky Life was screened at the 2002 Philadelphia Festival of World Cinema. The film won the 2002 Best Film at the Lleida Film Festival, the 2001 Radio Havana Award at the Havana Film Festival and the Golden Colon at the 2001 Huelva Film Festival.
