Wolfe had established the scholarship fund with a $1 million gift from the Robert F. Wolfe and Edgar T. Wolfe Foundation in September 1999. These scholarships have benefited a growing number of students who have had the opportunity to study in 39 different countries. This additional gift will double the existing endowment and provide an even greater number of experiences to students who wish to augment their academic career through study abroad. This year the Wolf Scholarship was awarded to 25 students in the amount of $2,000 each.

The gift represents an important step toward achieving Ohio State’s goal of providing as many students as possible with the ability to study abroad and explore different social and economic cultures in another country. And for this, we are truly grateful.

Another new opportunity for study abroad scholarships is the Ralph D. Mershon Study Abroad Scholarship established by The Mershon Center for International Security Studies. As many as 10 scholarships of up to $2,000 each will be awarded this year.

The question for many students is not ‘Should I study abroad?’ but "Where am I going to study abroad?’ Taking classes in another country enriches the life experiences of our students. More importantly, it helps them learn about another culture and its people. It provides them with a better understanding of themselves and can give them a more focused direction for a future career.

Many students are seeking ways to help fund their dreams of studying abroad. These scholarships made available specifically to be used for study abroad programs are a meaningful way to provide an invaluable experience for students to see a new and different world.
