The Ohio State Office of International Affairs advises non-resident students that there are two options for earning credit (graded or transfer "K") for successful participation on a study abroad program that is co-sponsored by Ohio State University through an agreement with another university or program provider.

Option 1: Graded Credit and Registration at Ohio State

Option 1 requires you to be registered at Ohio State while participating on a co-sponsor study abroad program. In addition to the co-sponsor program fee which you will pay directly to the co-sponsor provider, you will be assessed a quarterly fee of approximately $4,200 (or $4,700 for graduate non-residents), plus a one-time co-sponsor fee of $500 to Ohio State. You will be billed this amount on your Statement of Account for each quarter you are registered for study abroad with the co-sponsor.

With Option 1 you will:

1. Maintain your registration at Ohio State and pay the quarterly non-resident fees of approximately $4,200 ($4,700 for graduate students);

2. Earn graded Ohio State credit based on your co-sponsor transcript and equivalencies determined by the appropriate Ohio State academic departments;

3. Have direct access to your financial aid including loans, grants, and scholarships; and

4. Receive all notices from the university concerning registration for the quarter following your study abroad experience, athletic tickets, program announcements, etc.

Option 2: Transfer "K" Credit and Direct Enrollment with the Co-Sponsor Study Abroad Program

Option 2 does not require registration or the payment of any fees at Ohio State while you are participating on the co-sponsor study abroad program. You will pay the co-sponsor program fee directly to the co-sponsor provider. For information on which forms of your financial aid may be used for your study abroad program, you must consult the Ohio State Office of Student Financial Aid. Restrictions may apply.

The transfer of your study abroad credit will be facilitated by the Transfer Credit Center in the Office of the University Registrar. After completion of your study abroad program, you or your co-sponsor must send an original copy of your co-sponsor transcript to the Transfer Credit Center. The Transfer Credit Center will evaluate your transcript and assign course equivalencies. You will be assigned non-graded "K" credit. If you choose Option Two, OIA encourages you to first consult with your academic advisor to determine if "K" credit is acceptable for major, minor, GEC, or elective requirements.

With Option 2 you will:

1. Not be assessed an Ohio State quarterly fee;

2. Earn transfer or ungraded “K” credit; and

3. Need to consult with the Ohio State Office of Student Financial Aid to determine which forms of your financial aid may be used to help cover the costs of the co-sponsored study abroad program.

Non-resident students who choose Option Two will be welcome to attend and participate in all standard OIA study abroad predeparture orientations for their co-sponsor programs.

Please consult the appropriate OIA program coordinator for further information. In addition, non-resident students who choose Option Two are encouraged to complete the attached form and return to International Affairs (attention: Jenny Kraft), for record keeping purposes only. If you have further questions, you may contact Jenny Kraft, Office of International Affairs, 292-6101 or kraft.51@osu.edu.
