Hermanas film poster The Center for Latin American Studies launches its spring quarter film series with "Hermanas" (Sisters), set for Wednesday, April 2 in 180 Hagerty Hall at 7:30 p.m. This quarter's films will feature young Latin American film makers.

This is a perceptive and beautifully acted drama from the Argentine director Julia Solomonoff. Natalia (Ingrid Rubio), a restless journalist, has traveled to Texas to distance herself from her family's turbulent past. One of Natalia's aims is to find out who informed authorities eight years before of the wherabouts of her boyfriend, which led to his disappearance. The discovery of a novel written by her father raises specters none can ignore. The film is free and has English subtitles.

As part of its continuing outreach efforts to educate the community about business, politics, culture and the arts in Latin America, films are selected to help the public enhance its knowledge and understanding of this region of the world.
