Eleven faculty members from The Ohio State University have been selected as recipients of prestigious Fulbright fellowships. Recipients are selected by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, which administers the program for the U.S. Department of State.

Recipients to conduct research abroad, promote global welfare

COLUMBUS – Eleven faculty members from The Ohio State University have been selected as recipients of prestigious Fulbright fellowships. Recipients are selected by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, which administers the program for the U.S. Department of State.

With nine faculty members representing Ohio State's Columbus campus and two representing regional campuses (Wooster and Lima), Ohio State is home to more Fulbright fellows than any other university in Ohio this year. Fellows will conduct research abroad, consult with international colleagues, and lecture to promote general global welfare.

Fulbright fellowships are awarded to approximately 800 scholars each year. Recipients are chosen based on professional accomplishments and demonstrated leadership in their chosen fields. Since its inception in 1946, nearly 300,000 people have participated in the Fulbright exchange program, which is widely heralded as the nation's flagship educational exchange program.

In addition, Ohio State will host three foreign scholars who have received Fulbright grants to teach and conduct research in the U.S. under the Visiting Scholar Program.

Ohio State's Fulbright Fellowship Recipients

  • Robert Agunga, (Human and Community Resource Development), for "Lecturing and Research: Introduction to Development Communication; Assessing the Development Communication Program" at Bunda College of Agriculture, Blantyre, Malawi.
  • Denise Bronson, (Social Work) for "Lecturing: Evidence-based Services to Families and Children" at Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland.
  • Wen Shyong (Charlie) Chern, (emeritus, Agricultural, Environmental, and Development Economics) for "Research: Impacts of Health Concerns and Social/Demographic Changes on Food Consumption Behavior" at National Chung Cheng University, Chia-Yi, Taiwan.
  • Laura Justice (Teaching and Learning) for "Lecturing and Research: Early Language Development and Intervention" at the University of Zagreb, Zagreb, Croatia.
  • Joy McCorriston (Anthropology) for "Lecturing: New Scholarship in Ancient Near Eastern Landscape Studies" at the University of Tuebingen, Tuebingen, Germany.
  • Christopher Reed (History) for "Research: For Whom the Bell Tolled: The Origins and Development of Chinese Print Communism, 1921-1949" at the Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan.
  • Duane Roller (emeritus, Greek and Latin) for "Distinguished Lectureship: Beyond the Limits: Greeks and Romans Outside the Mediterranean" at the University of Graz, Graz, Austria.
  • D. Rose Elder (Arts, Science and Business) for "Lecturing: How Protestantism Informs the American Experience" at the University of Cyprus, Nicosia, Cyprus, Eastern Mediterranean University, Mersin, Cyprus.
